"A ship in harbour is safe. But that is not what ships are built for." ~ John A. Shedd

That's a favourite quote of mine, and has resonated with me for a while now. Nothing is going to improve or be enhanced unless you take a chance and want to give it a go.

Sure, you can stay "safe" in the harbour. But most brands don't succeed with that mindset, and may need a little help along the way now and again.

My Story

It's England. 1995. Having left a promising stockbroking career six years earlier, and full of great memories of some backpacking adventures around the world, I answered a small classified advert looking for a business reporter.

Fresh out of journalism school, no experience -- apart from writing about lost cats in my local newspaper -- I was left in a room with an Apple Mac Classic and some press releases, and given half hour to come up with something to get my first media job. No pressure!

But that's how it started, and here I am 24 years later, feeling like my career has come full circle. In the past two decades I've edited newspapers and magazines, created/refreshed/relaunched websites (big and small), advised on social media strategy, co-founded a green non-profit, recorded a podcast that made it into the Top10 of iTunes' North American Comedy Podcasts, published two books and won a couple of awards for digital work in education.

I've never been bored in any of those roles. And I always look for opportunities that provide variety.

So, it's time to take all that I've learned from this career to date, and offer that help to brands who feel they need some assistance, whatever form that takes. I'm flexible ... and keen to work with those of a similar mind.

That's the shortened version of My Story. Here's the rest via LinkedIn. Feel free to connect there with me, or read some of my testimonials. I firmly believe in the value of personal recommendations.

Thank you for reading, and please contact me if you'd like to chat about how I can help enhance your brand in some way.
