One year after the passing of Paul Davey, beloved husband, father, friend, and Toronto District Fire Chief, his son-in-law fondly recalls the larger-than-life man behind the uniform. Despite first being intimidated by Paul’s gruff phone demeanour, he soon discovered a kind-hearted softie who loved gadgets, animals, Arnold Schwarzenegger movies, and his family. A gifted athlete who once turned down a shot at professional baseball to become a firefighter, Paul was known for his quick wit, sports savvy, and endless curiosity about technology — often calling for help after accidentally deleting files or falling for Internet scams. Whether sharing drinks, swapping stories from his firefighting days, or watching hockey and action movies with family, Paul brought laughter and warmth to every room. Remembered as both a legend and a gentle soul, he is deeply missed by all who knew him.
